AVID

AVID stands for ~ Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in post secondary education. The AVID program is designed for the middle-of-the-road students that need a little extra support. The program places an emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.

Is AVID a good fit for me?

All students are eligible to enroll in the AVID program. Students that generally get Cs and Bs and show potential, benefit from the AVID program.

How to sign up for the AVID program at Windom Area Schools:

Students in grades 6-8 learn about AVID by taking a quarter of AVID each of their middle school years.

Students in grades 9-12 can take one of our AVID elective courses. We currently offer an AVID I designed for 9-10 grade students, and AVID III designed for 11-12 grade students. Students may sign up for an AVID course when course registration is completed in the spring

What do AVID Students Learn?

The AVID curriculum focuses on building skills and developing behaviors that lead to success.

Windom Area Schools Commitment to AVID

AVID offers an annual summer institute and Windom Schools sends a contingency of staff to be trained every summer. The AVID team at Windom Schools meets monthly to discuss progress and AVID implementation.
